Auburn 851 SC Speedster (1935)
Description
8 cylinder 3.6 litre engine fitted with a supercharger. This is one of only 8 built as a right hand drive car and was bought by a wealthy land owner in his bid to win the hand of a Phillipine socialite. No word on whether it worked! It does have a stamp on the dash which proves it has been driven at 100mph. The Japanese invaded during WWII and the owner removed several parts from the car to avoid it being taken by them. It then spent the rest of the war being hidden under mountains of rice, before being used around the farm for years. In 1972 an Englishman purchased the car and had it restored in the UK. It now belongs to an American owner who purchased it in 2005. It's on display in McDonagh Junction Shopping Centre, Kilkenny though usually without the cuddly toys...
