1994-1997 Toyota Previa Crash Test (IIHS)

Description

The Toyota Previa was introduced in the 1991 model year. Frontal airbags for both the driver and passenger became standard beginning with the 1994 model year. Restraints/dummy kinematics — Dummy movement wasn't well controlled. Special stitching on the lap belt tore, lengthening the belt. This allowed the dummy to finish partially reclining with the belt up over its abdomen. The stitching is designed to tear and control occupant movement in some crashes but contributed to poor dummy kinematics in this case. Injury measures — Measures taken from the chest indicate low risk of injuries to this body region in a crash of this severity. A high head acceleration occurred when the dummy's head hit the steering wheel through the airbag, indicating that injuries to the head would be possible. Forces on the neck indicate that injuries to the neck would be possible. Forces on the left and right tibias indicate that injuries to the lower legs would be likely.
