Cold start Skoda Fabia 1.4 TDI -18 celcius / -0 fahrenheit

I had to start ye olde diesel without pre-heating. It started a lot smoother at -25 celcius a year ago, so it looks like I have to get myself a new battery for next winter... ;) Temperature here was -18 celcius, a few hours ago it was -22 c / -7 f. I took it for a spin to a nearby store, 6 km alltogether and fuel consumption was 7.8 l / 100 km, 30 mpg. The temp gauge did not move. (Guess it was frozen? ;) Notice my excellent pronunciation of "old battery". Anyway I better start plugging it in for nights...
