1953 Cadillac Series 62 Coupe with Factory Air Conditioning Part 3

I'm driving my '53 Cadillac in Cameron Park, Waco, Texas. I'm beginning in the lower park right beside the Brazos River and will drive one-handed up the winding, twisting road which ends at Lover's Leap. This was the 400 acre estate that belonged to the prominent Wm. Cameron family which owned Cameron Lumber Mills and was one of Waco's largest employers from the 1890's into the late 1960's when it was closed. Wm. Cameron, Jr. died in 1939 without leaving an heir. This estate was deeded in perpetuity to the City in 1915 and has served since then as a gathering place for families, reunions, company picnics, hiking, biking and everything else. There is a club house on the grounds that has been used continuously since the 1920's. The family's summer home is also located on the property and now serves as an art museum. The property is within blocks of a busy city, but to be within the boundaries of the park, one feels completely isolated and for all practical purposes in some remote mountain area--it's a facility very unique to a town of this size. I was expecting to drive right up to the parking area at the Leap at the end, but once I got to the top found the gates locked--I had forgotten that for several months this area has been closed off for the rebuilding of the safety barriers along the edge of the cliff for the first time in over 70 years so I could not photograph the magnificant view from that vantage point.
