Pinksixty FRIDAY 24 JUNE 2011
Description
US President Barack Obama hosted a fundraising gala for the same-sex marriage cause in New York City, last night. It happened as the city's state Legislature stands on the brink of legalising same-sex marriage for gays and lesbians. British Home Secretary Theresa May has said that sport must have a zero-tolerance approach to homophobia. She made the comments after the coalition government hosted a reception for queer athletes at 10 Downing Street. City officials in Russia's St. Petersburg gave the go-ahead for an anti-gay rally at the weekend -- just week's after banning gay Pride. Organisers of the protest demanded that authorities put an end to what they called "sexual perversion". R&B singer Chris Brown is the latest celebrity to apologise after publicly using a homophobic slur. Sources say he called paparazzi gay after they alerted police to his illegally parked car. Finally, Doctor Who writer Russell T Davies has launched a scathing attack on David Cameron and Nick Clegg over spending cuts to the BBC. He claimed the pair are 'savage and evil people'.
